Maya Angelou was a famous American poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist. Her works are celebrated across the African continent. When her story is told, her controversial history of sex work and of being a pimp (madame) for lesbians is left out. For this debate, painting the full picture means active propagation of her story together with her controversial past through all means available.
