Government arts funding in Australia focuses on helping audiences engage with art produced by professional artists (e.g. funding public art galleries, funding professional artists to hold events and exhibits).
In comparison, government funding of sports in Australia focuses mainly on fostering broader community participation from people who are not professional players (e.g. through funding sports programs for children, giving adults vouchers to take classes).

Popular fiction refers to books that are widely publicly read and aimed at entertaining (e.g The Hunger Games, Twilight). By comparison, literary fiction is fiction that is not necessarily widely read, but is highly regarded by critics and aims to comment on society. Fly-in fly-out (FIFO) work refers to when an employer temporarily transports their workforce from their home location to their work location by plane. In Western Australia this is most commonly in the form of workers who live in Perth or elsewhere in the South West flying to the remote Pilbara region for work in the mining industry. When flown-in, workers live on the mine site with accommodation and food paid for by their employer. While schedules vary, a common FIFO schedule is 14 consecutive 12-hour workdays in the Pilbara followed by 7 days off in the South West. The majority of employees on remote mine sites in WA work FIFO.

The Australian Senate recently passed a bill to cap political donations and campaign spending, which limits the amount that a can be spent per electorate and nationally, as well as the amount that any individual donor can give a candidate or party. State and federal branches of parties are counted separately.
