A draft system is a transfer system commonly practiced in US sports in which players are distributed according to which league is in the greatest need. The draft system is intended to prevent expensive bidding wars for young talents and to ensure that teams do not sign contracts with the best talents which could make the league uncompetitive in a certain way. In that manner, teams that do poorly in the previous season usually get to pick first in a postseason draft which could see them with better chances of picking great talents (E.g: In 2003, the Cleveland cavaliers signed Lebron James thanks to a height draft pick they received for holding the worst winning record in the NBA that period). In comparison, the European Football Leagues practices a transfer system which allows clubs to go for players of their choice as long as they have the financial capacity to do so and can satisfy the demands of their previous football clubs also in accordance to rules set by the Football governing bodies.
